Happy Friday! It’s officially the Christmas season! I thought I would take a moment and see what could support my addiction this weekend. I have heard about a couple of fun and interesting things to do.
I friend mine told me about the Madison Candlelight Tour of Homes this weekend. Don’t let this pass you by if you haven’t been. I have heard rave reviews about this event for thirty years and it just continues to get better and better.
If you go on Saturday, Belles Beaux, and Gifts is having a wonderful book signing. Mike Kitchens will be there signing his new book, Ghosts of Grandeur. His website states that “This new book features stories on ninety four historic and architecturally imposing antebellum homes, most of which have long since been lost to all but the longest memories. Mike’s goal in publishing this book, is two-fold: first, he would like to resurrect the images and stories of these once grand mansions for future generations to study and admire; and second, by identifying the extraordinary homes now lost, he hope to promote the idea of historic preservation in the South to encourage the preservation and protections of as many of these unique and iconic dwellings as possible.” Now I know what I want for Christmas!!
If you are wanting to stay a little closer in town, there is Christmas at Callanwolde starting this weekend! This promises to be sheer delight. The mansion is decorated by Atlanta’s designers and will run for 12 days. It’s always fun to have an excuse to go to Callanwolde. For those of you who don’t know, this historic home was built for the oldest son of the founder of Coca Cola. Howard Candler was the president of the conglomerate from 1916-1923. It is now a fine arts center and open to the public and is offered as a fabulous event space. A friend of mine was married there. I still remember it as one of the most lovely weddings I have ever been to.
